We are very proud to announce this morning that the new American Airlines, created by the merger of American Airlines and US Airways Group (NYSE: LCC), will be listing on NASDAQ under the ticker symbol “AAL." The new American Airlines will list upon the final approval and closing of their pending merger, which will solidify their presence as a premier global airline.
We are extremely excited and look forward to having the new American Airlines join our family of world class brands. Citing our marketplace and spirit of innovation, Tom Horton, incoming chairman of the new American Airlines said “Today we moved another step closer in our preparations to launch the new American Airlines. NASDAQ offers a most advanced trading platform driven by innovation and efficiency – qualities that complement the new American.”
The listing of the new American Airlines on NASDAQ is our latest success in what has been a banner year for us with new listings. So far in 2013, we have welcomed 16 companies that have transferred to our market from our competition, as well as just recently we welcomed our 100th IPO, the first time since 2007 that number has been reached. As of today, 117 IPOs have listed on NASDAQ, the most of any US exchange.
